Diaphragm Compressor/Vacuum Pump

Diaphragm compressor / vacuum pumps are widely used to manufacture vacuum tubes and electric lamps, as well as process semiconductors. Raptor Supplies offer an array of diaphragm compressor / vacuum pumps from brands like Gast, Speedaire and Thomas. At times, these pumps also remove gases from a specific area or remove water from basements (sump pumps). Gast diaphragm compressor / vacuum pumps are equipped with maintenance-free ball bearings to reduce the frictional losses and a head assembly made of chemical- / heat-resistant PPS (Polyphenylene Sulfide) which provide resistance against corrosion. They can be mounted on any plane and are offered with alternate stroke options. Thomas diaphragm compressor / vacuum pumps are permanently lubricated and are therefore considered as virtually maintenance-free units. These pumps are ideal for applications which require moderate pressure and continuous-duty operations. They also facilitate reversible use of the 1/8 and 1/4 inch inlet and outlet ports. Choose from a wide range of these pumps available in 110/115 V, 115 V, 12 V and 24 V voltage options on Raptor Supplies.

Features

Gast Diaphragm Compressor / Vacuum Pumps

  • They come with maintenance-free ball bearings for reduced frictional losses.
  • These pumps feature a head assembly made of chemical / heat resistant PPS (Polyphenylene Sulfide) to resist corrosion on exposed surfaces.
  • They can be mounted on any plane and have alternate stroke options.

Thomas Diaphragm Compressor / Vacuum Pumps

  • They have enclosed housing and motor vents for increased heat dissipation.
  • These compressor & vacuum pumps come with permanently lubricated bearings to reduce frictional losses.
  • They feature a balanced pump design and thermal protectors for smooth and low-vibration operations.
  • These pumps offer an automatic shut-off function for decreased overheating.
  • They have die-cast aluminium construction for increased strength and corrosion resistance.
  • These pumps are equipped with a diaphragm compressor for positive sealing and to prevent the entry of contaminants.

Working Mechanism

  • During the intake stroke, the diaphragm moves downwards, which increases the chamber's volume and creates a vacuum inside it.
  • Air or gas flows into the chamber through the inlet valve.
  • During the compression stroke, the diaphragm moves upwards, decreasing the chamber's volume, compressing the air or gas inside and increasing its pressure.
  • The outlet valve opens and the compressed air or gas flows out of the chamber.
  • After the compression stroke, the diaphragm returns to its original position and the exhaust valve closes.
  • The chamber's volume increases, creating a vacuum and the process repeats.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are vacuum pumps used in hospitals?

Medical vacuum pumps keep medical professionals safe from potentially harmful substances. These vacuum pumps are widely used in hospitals, vet clinics and medical clinics.

How to install diaphragm compressor / vacuum pumps?

  • Choose a clean and well-ventilated location for the pump.
  • Connect the inlet and outlet pipes, ensuring that the connections are tight.
  • Mount the pump securely on a stable surface using bolts or other fasteners.
  • Connect the pump to a suitable power supply following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Check the pump's operation, including pressure, flow rate and vacuum level.

How do I clean and maintain these pumps?

  • Regularly inspect the pump for damage, wear and tear.
  • Clean the exterior with a soft cloth or brush.
  • Check and replace filters to prevent contamination and improve efficiency.
  • Clean the diaphragm and valves with a non-abrasive cleaner and lubricate moving parts.
