STARRETT Micrometers

Starrett mechanical outside micrometers are designed for measuring outside dimensions in 1-inch increments to 0.0001 inches resolution and accuracy. These Starrett micrometers provide higher resolution than a vernier calliper. They are used in laboratories, as well as the automotive, metalworki...ng & manufacturing industries.Read more

Working Mechanism

  • Starrett mechanical outside micrometers come factory assembled and are capable of being operated just after being unpacked.
  • For measuring small objects with an outside micrometer, open the tool jaws and slip the object between the anvil and spindle.
  • Turn the thimble using your thumb while holding the object against the forefinger and anvil, until the spindle touches the object.

Features

  • Starrett mechanical outside micrometers feature an advanced sleeve design with distinct figures and staggered lines for accurate and easy readability.
  • They have frames made of steel / drop forged steel to provide structural rigidity for use in harsh environments.
  • Starrett mechanical outside micrometers are equipped with a ring type knurled locknut to ensure quick and secure locking.
  • These micrometers have specifically designed, tapered frames for use in confined places or narrow slots.
  • They feature an exceptionally hard & stable one-piece spindle for measuring keyways with accuracy.
  • Starrett micrometers come coated with satin chrome finish to resist corrosion and glaring.
  • They have smooth friction / ratchet thimble for quick adjustment and uniform pressure.
  • Selected models have micro-lapped carbide measuring faces to provide precision and wear resistance.

Compatible Accessories

  • Starrett 3206 Outside Micrometer Stands: These stands clamp or mount to a table or bench at 45 degrees and hold the middle of the C-shaped jaw of the micrometer so that users can use both hands while measuring a workpiece. These micrometer stands have adjustable positions and allow users to rotate the micrometer's orientation to simplify operation.
  • Starrett PT99060 Lock Nuts: These knurled ring type nuts can be turned up to 90 degrees for locking the spindle against turning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the graduations on an outside micrometer and a depth micrometer?

Depth micrometers and regular outside micrometers both utilise the same graduations and spindle, but the graduation order is reversed in depth micrometers. A digital depth micrometer's resolution is higher than most conventional line-graduated depth micrometers.

How do you calibrate a Starrett outside micrometer?

Insert the setting bar between the measuring faces and smoothly turn the thimble until you feel that the ratchet has clicked. Find the spanner with the hole in the sleeve's back and smoothly turn the sleeve until the thimble zero & sleeve index are aligned.

How do you clean a Starrett micrometer?

Softly rub the stage micrometer with a non-abrasive cloth partially soaked in cleaning solution. Use another dry cleaning cloth for wiping off the excess liquid and leave the micrometer to dry. Repeat as per the need.

What are some points users need to remember while using Starrett outside micrometers?

  • Starrett outside micrometers should be periodically calibrated using a master / standard for maintaining accuracy.
  • They should be stored in a protective case after every use for preventing damage to the body. An air hose should not be used to clean them.
  • A drop of precision instrument oil / lubricant should be occasionally applied on the spindle & threads for proper wear resistance.
  • Does Starrett offer a warranty on Starrett outside micrometers?

Yes, the company offers a one year warranty (from date of purchase) on their outside micrometers against defects in materials or workmanship, given that the tool has not been misused or abused.
