178 Series Stepless Screw Clamps, Stainless Steel
Oetiker screw clampsare ideal for mounting, clamping, strapping and positioning a wire or hose. These screw clamps attach hoses and tubing to fittings to prevent leakage of liquids, air or gases in applications like commercial fishing and food processing, which involve exposure to salt water. Oetiker 178 Series StepLess screw clamps are made of stainless steel for resisting corrosion on exposed surfaces and feature a screw type tightening mechanism that enables them to fit into a wider range of hose diameters, in comparison with similarly sized ear clamps. The tightening mechanism is self tensioning to accommodate variations in diameter due to thermal cycles.
As their name suggests, these clamps feature a StepLess design to eliminate steps and overlaps on the clamp's inner circumference to provide a leak free seal and consistent 360 degree pressure. They have burr free strip edges which provide complete protection of clamped parts from scarring or mechanical damages. Oetiker 178 Series StepLess screw clamps are made from strip material having 9 mm width and 0.6 mm thickness. The dimensions of these strips provide optimum sealing with silicone hoses & EPDM rubber, while taking into account the compressibility of the hose, sealing or retaining properties, necessary radial force and environmental conditions. Oetiker 178 Series clamps come equipped with a mechanical interlock to provide secure retention of the round clamp geometry.
Uses
Oetiker 178 Series StepLess screw clamps are used for numerous clamping applications in the forestry, agriculture, plumbing, marine, shipping, automobile, chemical, food & beverage, and maintenance & repair industries.
Working Mechanism
Oetiker 178 Series StepLess screw clamps feature a tongue-in-groove design with a narrow band that concentrates clamping force transmission and a housing screw that facilitates smooth tightening & loosening for increasing & decreasing the band size. The band of these clamps has D-nuts and an interlock that engages & keeps the clamp locking mechanism in position once fastened. Once installed, the locking mechanism keeps the clamp locked for long durations, even in adverse conditions & environments.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Oetiker clamps reusable?
Selected Oetiker clamp models like low profile, universal and screw clamps are reusable.
How do you remove an Oetiker clamp?
Tools like a side, rotating or bowl nose cutter can be used for removing an Oetiker clamp. However, rotating cutters are not recommended as they can damage the hose while cutting the clamp.
How do you tighten a StepLess clamp?
StepLess clamps are designed for tightening in an exact circle around the hose. Simply use a middle cutter or crimping tool on your pliers for crimping (not squeezing) the StepLess clamp close.
What is the significance of burr free strip edges?
Oetiker 178 Series StepLess screw clamps feature burr free strip edges to provide complete protection of clamped parts against scarring or mechanical damages.
Are Oetiker 178 Series StepLess screw clamps capable of resisting structural deformity against compression?
Yes, 178 Series StepLess screw clamps feature a mechanical interlock to provide secure retention of the round clamp geometry.
How are Oetiker clamps measured?
Just measure the outside diameter of the hose and make sure that the measured diameter is in the middle of the clamping range of the clamp.
When should I replace my hose clamps?
Radiator hose clamps and radiator hoses should be replaced every 3 to 5 years. With age and heavy use, hoses and clamps can become brittle, swollen or corroded. The radiator can only cool the car if the internal pressure stays high.
What are the different types of Oetiker clamps?
Oetiker offers a wide range of clamps including crimping ring, low profile, strap, V profile and ear clamps for numerous applications in the automotive, oil & gas, and hydraulic industries.
What is the difference between ear clamps and screw clamps?
Ear clamps use their single / double ear configuration for crimping under constant jaw force to provide uniform clamping force. Screw clamps have a built in screw, bridge & D nut for tightening them around a hose using a screwdriver.
What is the significance of StepLess design of Oetiker 178 Series screw clamps?
Oetiker 178 Series screw clamps feature a StepLess design for eliminating steps and overlaps on the clamp's inner circumference, ensuring a leak free seal and consistent 360 degree pressure.
