LOVEJOY CJ Series Hubs, Powder Metal, B Style, Metric Bores

Lovejoy CJ Series, B style jaw coupling hubs go through a complete machining process for forming a curved jaw profile which provides a large contact area, increases torque capacity and reduces edge pressure. They are capable of accommodating angular and radial shaft misalignments in conveyors, ...escalators & motor vehicles, as well as the forestry, agricultural, mining, robotics & aeronautics industries.Read more

Working Mechanism

  • Before mounting the hubs, set the keys in the shaft keyways such that the keys fit properly in the keyways, with minimal side to side movement.
  • Lovejoy CJ coupling hubs are designed with a clearance & slip fit, so they should slide onto the shaft with negligible difficulty.
  • Tighten the set screw in one hub to the required torque value with a calibrated torque wrench and then lightly tighten the second set screw, allowing possible axial adjustments when the equipment is moved.
  • Insert the spider into one hub. If both shafts need to extend into the spider centre, the hub may not align with the shaft end.
  • Move the equipment into the exact location for achieving the gap between hub faces. Lovejoy CJ coupling hubs can overhang slightly or be moved back on the shafts for compensating misalignments in shaft separation.
  • Check alignment using either a dial indicator or the straight edge method, taking measurements at four locations 90 degrees apart, to ensure that alignment does not exceed the permissible misalignment.
  • Remove any material & tooling away from the shaft and coupler. Install the suitable coupling guard as per OSHA requirements and remove the tagout or lockout kit from the power supply. The equipment is now ready to be tested.

Features

  • CJ Series, B Style jaw coupling hubs from Lovejoy provide highly reliable service for medium, light and heavy duty electrical motors and internal gas combustion engines.
  • They are used with spiders for joining shafts and linking shafts with angular displacement up to 1.2 degrees & axial displacement up to 0.07 inches.
  • The hubs are offered in both unbored and metric bored variants for clearance fit tolerance and enabling quick installation.
  • These easy-to-assemble units have powder metal cast iron construction to provide high compression strength and corrosion resistance on exposed surfaces.
  • Models having Lovejoy CJ24 mm bore size help in rotating shafts at speeds up to 14000 rpm.
  • CJ Series jaw coupling hubs do not require lubrication and are engineered to disable metal to metal contact.
  • The fail-safe design and jaw in compression configuration help in continuing the operation even after the elastomer fails.
  • These couplings are resistant to dirt, oil, grease, moisture and sand.

Compatible Accessories

  • Lovejoy CJ Series Spiders: These spiders deliver a maximum speed of 19000 rpm. These open centre units can accommodate angular misalignments ranging from 0.9 to 1.3 degrees, parallel misalignments from 0.008 to 0.027 inches and axial misalignments from 0.039 to 0.252 inches. They feature polyurethane construction for excellent oil & abrasion resistance and efficient performance.

Standards and Approvals

  • ISO 9001:2008

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the significance of the colours of Lovejoy spiders?

  • Black - Lovejoy spiders with 80 Shore A hardness ensure excellent damping properties.
  • Yellow - Spiders with 92 Shore A hardness are used in hydraulic applications.
  • Red - Lovejoy coupling spiders with 95 / 98 Shore A hardness are suitable in high torque applications.
  • Green - Lovejoy spiders with 64 Shore D hardness are ideal for humid environments.
  • Blue - Lovejoy spiders with 92 & 95 Shore A hardness provide chemical resistance and high torque capabilities.
  • Tan / Bronze - Lovejoy coupling spiders with 55 Shore D hardness ensure excellent chemical resistance.
  • How do you measure a Lovejoy CJ coupling?

The BSE (shaft separation) dimension for a Lovejoy coupling should be measured from one end of the first shaft to the other end of the second shaft, not to Lovejoy CJ coupling hub faces.

What is the difference between rigid and flexible couplings?

Rigid couplings offer a rigid connection between two shafts that are firmly connected, and facilitate the coupling to transfer torque smoothly throughout the system. Flexible couplings provide flexible connections, and there is a chance of losing some torque during transmission.
