Working Mechanism

  • Eaton EHD series MCCBs are equipped with fixed thermal and fixed magnetic trip units to protect the system against overload and short-circuit conditions.

Fixed Thermal Trip:

  • This protection device features a bi-metallic strip and operates based on the heating effects of current.
  • The heat generated during an overcurrent situation causes the bimetallic strip to bend. This opens the circuit breaker and interrupts the current flow.

Fixed Magnetic Trip:

  • This trip consists of an electromagnet and operates on the principle of the magnetic effect of current.
  • When the current passing through a circuit exceeds a pre-determined value, the electromagnet senses the magnetic field generated by the current and opens the breaker to stop the flow.

Features

  • These F-frame breakers have high interrupting ratings that allow them to safely interrupt short-circuit currents up to 18kA.
  • They feature interchangeable (fixed thermal & fixed magnetic) trip units suitable for reverse feed applications.
  • They also include a manual trip option controlled by the breaker's toggle handle and a PUSH-TO-TRIP button to trip during a power failure or for troubleshooting purposes.
  • Selected circuit breakers are equipped with terminals on the load end and are designed to withstand temperatures up to 50 degrees Celsius.

Standards and Approvals

  • UL
  • HACR

Frequently Asked Questions

How to install the circuit breaker?

  • Inspect the circuit breaker for completeness and check for any damage before installation.
  • Position the circuit breaker on the mounting surface. Install mounting screws, washers and nuts and tighten firmly.
  • Connect the load terminals (if required) and accessories to the circuit breaker.
  • Test the breaker and ensure it is working properly.

How do I reset Eaton EHD Series circuit breakers once tripped?

After tripping, the circuit breaker can be reset by moving the toggle handle to the extreme OFF position. However, during a thermal trip, the circuit breaker cannot be reset until the thermal element (bi-metallic strip) cools down.

What is the PUSH-TO-TRIP button used for?

The PUSH-TO-TRIP button is used for checking the tripping function and periodically exercising the operating mechanism to ensure the proper working of the circuit breaker.
