What is thermal overload motor protection?

The overload relay features thermal protection to prevent motor damage from overload conditions. The unit has two reset modes (manual and automatic) and cannot be restarted until the thermal capacity in the motor is low enough for a successful restart.

What is a jam?

Jam is a condition in which the motor draws more current, above normal operating conditions. As a result, the motor attempts to drive the load, which has more resistive force due to mechanical interference. To drive the load, the motor draws an abnormal amount of current, leading to insulation breakdown and system failure. Motor Insight relay protection provides a configurable jam setting that is active during the 'motor run state' to prevent nuisance trips.

What is a ground fault?

Ground fault is a current leakage path to the ground that can burn through multiple insulation windings, leading to motor failure.
