Product Details:
Proto J376 retaining ring plier is designed for both external & internal retaining rings. It provides ease and reliability in installing / removing retaining rings without lost motion or damage to the rings.
Features:
When the pivot screw is moved to the adjacent tapped hole, Proto J376 converts from internal to external or vice versa.
For accurate fit and wear resistance, the fixed tips are precision formed and induction hardened.
The plastisol-coated handles have a long, curved design with air-cushioned grips for added comfort and fatigue reduction.
The grips are labelled clearly for easy identification.
Compatible Accessories:
Proto Tips: These tips engage rings securely and allow proper alignment to prevent rings from flying loose. You should use the largest diameter tip that will fit the retaining ring being removed or installed.
Standards and Approvals:
ASME B107.500-2010
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. What is the difference between internal & external retaining ring pliers?
A. Pliers used for installing rings in a bore are known as internal pliers, whereas external pliers are used to install rings on a shaft.
Q. What are the safety points one should be aware of while using pliers?
A.
Use safety goggles.
On electrical circuits, do not use pliers with cushion grips because there is no insulation to protect you.
Extenders and cheater bars should not be used on plier handles.
When using retaining ring pliers, protect yourself and bystanders from fying objects.
Cut the wire near the hinge at the base of the jaw, not at the tip.
Prevent excessive heat exposure.
Q. How important is a retaining ring?
A. Retaining rings are used to secure components to a shaft or bore. These rings fit into grooves and provide a shoulder to prevent lateral movement of components, such as bearings. They do, however, allow rotation of the component.
