Working Mechanism

  • Before using the drum lifter with a rotator forklift, adjust the positions of your lift truck's forks or tines to match the spacing between the fork pockets. Ensure that the fork position aligns with the drum lifter.
  • Place the drum lifter onto the forks of the rotator forklift. Slowly drive the truck forward until the forks contact the ends of the fork pockets.
  • For models with cam locks, make sure the lifter is fully and evenly supported by the floor, keeping the cam lock open for the forks to enter the fork pockets.
  • Connect the drum lifter to the rotator forklift by attaching the safety chain to the fork carriage. Wrap the chain around the fork carriage and fasten the snap hook to the chain without any slack.
  • If the lifter includes a bracket on the free end of the safety chain, attach it to the top of the carriage securely. Ensure that the chain cannot disconnect from the carriage.
  • To engage a 55-gallon drum, adjust the drum engager to the top hole in the supporting mast.
  • For smaller drums, lower the carriage as much as possible, then remove the adjustment pin.
  • Adjust the engager mounting link so that the lower jaws are slightly below the rim of the drum (ideally near its base).
  • Raise the forks a few inches off the ground / floor and tilt the mast forward.
  • Slowly approach the selected drum until the lower jaw of the drum engager contacts the side of the drum beneath the lip.
  • Raise the forks until the upper jaw engages the top of the drum lip. Continue lifting the forks until the drum is a few inches above the floor / ground.
  • Straighten the mast and transport the drum to your desired unloading location. Adjust the fork height as needed depending on the conditions along the travel path.
  • To release the drum, lower the forks until the drum is just a few inches above the floor. Tilt the fork truck mast forward.
  • Gradually lower the forks until the jaws disengage from the drum's lip and the drum is fully supported by the floor / ground.
