Piston Air Compressors

Thomas piston air compressors are suitable for powering pneumatic equipment in transportation and maintenance & repair applications. These air compressors feature a fully enclosed design for noise minimisation & ensuring protection against harsh industrial environments. Selected models come with permanently lubricated components, stainless steel valves and corrosion-resistant pump cylinders for long-term operation. Choose from a wide range of oil-less air compressors, available in capacitor start, permanent magnet, PMDC and shaded pole motor variants on Raptor Supplies.

Working Mechanism

  • When the piston goes down, atmospheric air is pulled into the compression chamber via the opened valve.
  • When the piston goes up, the air becomes compressed as it gets pushed into the output chamber.
  • The compressed air is then forced through the output port of the compressor.

Features

  • Thomas piston air compressors feature oil-less operation and permanently lubricated components for smooth & noiseless power delivery.
  • They have articulating / WOB-L pistons for handling loads.
  • These air compressors come equipped with permanent magnet / capacitor start / PMDC / TEFC / shaded pole motors to prevent overheating of compressor and providing protection from dust & wind-driven rain.
  • They run at speeds ranging from 1400 to 3450 rpm.
  • Thomas piston air compressors can be operated at temperatures up to 104 degrees F.
  • The cylinders of these air compressors are made of aluminium / cast iron for high compression strength
  • Their valves feature stainless steel construction for corrosion resistance on exposed surfaces.
  • They produce a maximum noise of 72 dBA while delivering airflow up to 3.78 cfm.
  • Selected models allow thru-bolt mounting for quick and easy installation.
  • These piston air compressors are available in 1/10, 1/8, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 and 3/4 hp variants.

Compatible Accessories

  • Thomas SK61732 and SK405DCMAJ: These service kits are used with the brand's 617CA32 and 405ADC38/12 piston air compressors, respectively. They include connecting rod assemblies, O-rings, screws, filters, head gaskets, valve flappers and valve keepers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a piston and rotary compressor?

Piston air compressors are oil-cooled, allowing the release of oil residue on discharging compressed air. On the other hand, rotary air compressors are designed with two interlocking helical rotors that fit between them with a small gap and are soaked in an oil bath within housing. Also, the rotary vane mechanism is more durable & efficient than piston compressors, providing higher air quality, better energy efficiency, more uptime, cost-effectiveness and longer service life.

What should I keep in mind when buying an air compressor?

The three key aspects to be considered while choosing an air compressor are - airflow, air pressure and the amount of air that can be stored within the tank.

How do I maintain my oil-free air compressor?

  • Do regular inspections of the power lead.
  • Drain your compressor's air receiver weekly.
  • Check whether the pressure is too high.
  • Observe the behaviour of the compressor.
  • Regularly check for leaks.
