Working Mechanism

  • Johnson Controls 3-way ball valves have three ports: an inlet, an outlet and a third port called the diverter or common port.
  • The ball inside the valve can be rotated using the handle or actuator. Its position determines the flow direction.
  • Position 1 - Straight Flow: When the ball is in one position, it allows fluid to flow straight from the inlet to one of the outlets, blocking the other outlet.
  • Position 2 - Diverted Flow: When the ball is turned to a different position, it diverts the flow from the inlet to the other outlet, blocking the original outlet.
  • Position 3 - Closed: In a third position, the ball can be turned to block both outlet ports, preventing any flow through the valve.
