Gems Sensors FS-380 Series flow switches detect changes in flow rates and trigger specific actions or alarms when preset thresholds are exceeded or not met. They are effective in the manufacturing, chemical processing and HVAC industries for monitoring the flow of liquids or gases in pipelines.... For instance, in the manufacturing industry, flow switches can prevent damage to machinery by shutting it down when insufficient coolant flow is detected. In chemical processing, they can trigger emergency shutdowns in case of unexpected flow surges, avoiding potential disasters. In HVAC systems, Gems Sensors flow switches ensure that there is a proper circulation of coolant, preventing overheating or freezing.Read more
Flow switches consist of a housing with an inlet and outlet for the fluid to pass through.
Inside the housing, there's a mechanism like a paddle or a magnetic float.
When fluid flows through the switch, it exerts force on this mechanism.
If the flow rate falls below or exceeds a preset threshold, the mechanism moves.
This movement triggers a switch or sensor, which can either complete or break an electrical circuit.
This change in the electrical circuit status can be used to signal an alarm, shut down equipment or activate other control actions.
Features
Gems FS-380 Series flow switches require a 100-micron filtration and are less prone to clogging than other high-pressure inline flow switches.
They have one-piece PPS composite pistons that make them ideal for flows up to 2 GPM.
These flow switches are made of brass / polypropylene / stainless steel to resist corrosion.
These Gems Sensors SPST switches require standard 22 AWG polymeric leads for secure electrical connection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can these flow switches be mounted at any angle?
Yes, these piston switches use a small, strong spring that is unaffected by the mounting orientation and will work in any orientation.
How to clean Gems FS-380 Series flow switches?
You can clean them by flushing the flow switches with clean water.
Does fluid viscosity affect the set points?
Yes, as viscosity increases, set points decrease.
What does an SPST switch mean?
SPST (single pole single throw) switches are only wired in one direction, either normally open or normally closed. They ensure that these switches can only be wired in one direction.
What is the difference between flow switches and flow sensors?
A flow switch detects flow presence at a predetermined set point. A flow sensor is used to monitor the flow rate and inform the user of the flow rate.
Why is filtration required for using flow switches?
Filtration prevents solid particle clogging. Although it is recommended, many applications do not use them. A general rule of thumb is that the lower the set point, the more susceptible the unit is to particles.
Will adding a small diameter connector to my flow switch change the pressure drop?
The pressure drop across the flow switch will not increase, but a pressure drop across the connector itself may occur. Each flow fitting has a pressure drop.
