EATON Counter Tachometers

Eaton C-face ring tachometers measure the rotational speed of motors, pumps or fans in industrial machinery and give a total count. These devices use a sensor with zero-speed pickup functionality for use in different sized motors. They can be easily programmed to provide measurements like RPM, ...frequency and pulses per revolution and include a display to monitor these parameters. They are easy to install and have a robust construction to withstand operating temperatures up to 225 degrees Fahrenheit.Read more

Working Mechanism

  • These C-face ring tachometers are mounted in a C-face adapter to measure the rotational speed of a motor / shaft.
  • They use a magnetic pickup sensor which consists of a magnet and a coil of wire.
  • The magnet is attached to the shaft and as the shaft rotates, the magnet spins past the coil of wire.
  • This creates an electrical signal in the coil, which is then sent to the tachometer.
  • The tachometer then processes this signal and converts it into a numerical value that represents the speed of the shaft.
  • The tachometer counts the number of pulses generated by the sensor and gives a total count.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a zero-speed pickup on tachometers?

A zero-speed pickup refers to a sensor that is used to measure the speed of a rotating shaft even when it is not rotating (that is, at zero speed). This feature helps to capture the pulse count where the shaft may come to a complete stop for short periods (like in the vehicle's idle state).

Can C-face ring tachometers be used in hazardous environments?

C-face ring tachometers are designed for use in environments that are prone to high temperatures, dust and vibration. They are made of materials that can withstand these conditions, as well as protect sensors and electronics.

Can these devices be connected to a PLC system?

Yes, these tachometers can be connected to a PLC system for remote monitoring and control. This also allows easy integration of tachometer data into a larger control system for the proper operation of machines and equipment.
