Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a cap nut and an acorn nut?

  • Cap nuts are available in variants made of plated steel, brass and stainless steel (commonly used for decorative projects). Acorn nuts are usually made of plated steel or stainless steel. Both kinds are frequently polished to a bright finish.
  • Both nuts are available in coarse & fine thread options, but cap nuts may be less expensive than the larger-sized acorn nuts.

What drive style is compatible with these nuts and caps?

The driving style of a fastener determines the tool used to tighten it. These nuts are compatible with the external hex driving style, which means they can be tightened with a ratchet, wrench or female hex driver.

What is the difference between internal and external drive styles?

  • Internal drives allow excellent gripping and have deeper grooves to drive better & take less force to tighten. External drives take even less force to tighten as they can be fastened with a socket or wrench.
  • Compared to internal drives, external drives are simpler to loosen when painted over / rusty / dirty, since there is no notch to collect gunk.

Which is better - external hex or external square drive?

A hex drive distributes the force over a greater number of points than a square drive. Thus, the external hex drive style is better than the square drive style.

How do tire beads work?

The main objective of tire beads is to firmly fasten the tire to the outside of the wheel. It accomplishes this by firmly moulding the rubber to the frame of the wheel and utilising the pressure applied by the wires. The bead enables more effective transmission of forces when the vehicle travels, creating an airtight seal against the wheel.
