Square nuts are used with flat washers to prevent damage from their sharp edges and improve the strength of the fastener.
They work well in restricted spaces when using pliers or wrenches, and are less likely to become rounded-off due to frequent loosening / tightening.
Square nuts have fine / standard / coarse threading and are available in plain, zinc clear, zinc yellow, tin and cadmium plating variants.
