Eyebolts

Eyebolts are ideal for vertical lifting applications and tying ropes & cables by firmly attaching them to a solid structure and anchoring / feeding the ropes / cables through the bolt's protruding loop (eye). Raptor Supplies offers a broad range of eyebolts from brands like Chicago Hardware, Grainger, Ken Forging, Fabory, and more. Heavy-duty eyebolts are used in rigging for the lifting of heavy loads, whereas smaller eyebolts are used for tensioning wires and similar non-load-bearing operations. These eyebolts are available in both Metric and Imperial designs.

Features

  • An eyebolt has two major parts - an eye & a threaded shank.
  • The eye is the section with a loop at one end to secure cable or wires.
  • The threaded shank or rod is used to securely screw the bolt into a structure. The larger the shank diameter, the larger the working load limit.
  • Shoulder eyebolts have shoulders to allow loading at slight angles.
  • Eyebolts offer rigid movement without any bending for precise & predictable control.
  • Chicago Hardware eyebolts adhere to ASME B30.26 standards. They have stainless steel or steel construction with black oxide / galvanised / zinc coating for structural rigidity & corrosion resistance.
  • Ken Forging eyebolts are available in variants with or without a shoulder and have shank lengths ranging from 5/8 to 24 inches (Imperial) or 25.4 to 127 mm (Metric).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an eyebolt and a ringbolt?

A standard eyebolt features a single forged ring on the top of the shank, whereas a ringbolt is equipped with an extra ring around the first ring. Eyebolts can only accommodate forces that are vertically above or below, while ringbolts can handle angled forces as well.

How to install eyebolts?

  • Determine the thickness of the material in which the bolt will be installed.
  • Choose a bolt such that the threaded portion of the eyebolt protrudes out of the surface.
  • If the eyebolt has unthreaded portion inside the material, use washers to raise the height of the bolt such that only the threaded portion is inside the material.
  • Install the eyebolt inside the pre-tapped hole in the material.
  • Use a screwdriver as a lever to screw in the bolt or hand-tighten it.
  • Attach a nut if possible.

What are some safety precautions while using or installing eyebolts?

  • Use eyebolts with a higher working load limit than required.
  • Check for signs of wear or damage on the bolts.
  • The threads on the eyebolt's shank & tapped hole should be clean.
  • Do not grind or cut the eyebolt as that would damage the inner strength of the bolt.
  • Loads should be applied on the axis of the eye.
