Frequently Asked Questions

How many types of Recoil inserts are available?

  • Free running inserts to provide a standard female thread
  • Locking inserts to lock the female thread when fasteners are installed

How to install Recoil inserts?

  • Drill the damaged thread with the drill size specified on the kit (if necessary).
  • Check that the thread on the tap matches the thread on the bolt.
  • Insert the tap into the tap wrench or use the square drive in the installation tool (if provided).
  • Tap the hole to the required depth.
  • Position the insert on the installation tool, with the adjustable top positioned so that the insert tang is centred in the tang slot.
  • The wind enters with light downward pressure until it is 1/4 to 1/2 turn below the surface.
  • Do not use a tool to twist the tang off. Lift the tool from the tang, turn it 90 degrees and tap down hard.

Which materials are used for the brand's inserts?

  • Type 304 stainless steel (18-8)
  • Stainless steel Grade 304 (AS7245) austenitic corrosion-resistant steel for normal applications up to 425 degrees C (800 degrees F)
  • Stainless steel Grade 316 (AISI316) austenitic corrosion-resistant steel for marine applications up to 425 degrees Celsius (800 degrees F)
  • Inconel X-750 (AS7246) nickel alloy for high temperature applications (425 to 550 degrees Celsius), or where low permeability is required
  • Phosphor bronze (DIN17677 or BS2783 PB 102) (300 degrees C) for electrical bonding joints or low permeability
  • Nimonic 90 (HR 503) for high-temperature applications (650 degrees C)
  • Nitronic 60 (UNS S21800) austenitic anti-galling alloy
